So, what happened to Winepisser? Yes, it was the wine website with the best name ever, so what exactly went wrong?
First, yes, Winepisser is shut down. I don’t intend to write any more reviews here. I am still writing reviews on the Vivino app, but that’s it.
The biggest problem was that Winepisser intended to be funny. However, I quickly found out that writing funny wine reviews wasn’t a particularly exciting task. Writing snarky reviews of bad wines was easy, but that forced me to drink bad wines. I like good wines, so I ended up writing about good wines, which sucked all the humorous potential out of the idea. Without humor, there wasn’t really a reason to have Winepisser in the first place.
Next, the site was getting, admittedly, boring. That’s not good for a wine site, and it’s way worse for a humor site.
What have I been up to? While you were gone, I wrote two entire crime/horror novels, and have advanced a host of other projects. So let this final post be one giant ad for my novel series, DR. CUBA. Fans of crime fiction, hardboiled detective pulps, German silent expressionist horror films, and Lovecraftian horror will get a kick out of this series.
